Getting to Parramatta by air

If you have not yet arranged your flights to Parramatta, Sydney, we recommend doing so soon. Airfares are likely to increase as demand rises, and early booking will provide greater availability and cost certainty.

Arriving in Parramatta, Sydney

There are two airport options for arrival into Sydney: Sydney International Airport (SYD) and Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) which will open in October 2026.

> Sydney International Airport (SYD) is the located about 9 km from the central business district (CBD) and approx. 27 km from Parramatta.


> Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) is scheduled to officially open to passenger flights in October 2026. The facility will operate domestic and international flights without a curfew. Airlines that have confirmed their plans to operate out of Western Sydney International include Qantas, Jetstar, Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand. Western Sydney International Airport

It is located about 25-35 mins drive from Parramatta.

Getting to Parramatta from Sydney International Airport (SYD)

Train

  • Take the T8 Airport & South Line from either the International or Domestic Airport station to Central railway station. At Central, transfer to a T1 Western Line service bound for Parramatta and continue directly to Parramatta Station.
  • You can pay with an Opal card or a contactless credit/debit card.

Taxi & Rideshare

  • Taxis and rideshare services (Uber, Ola, DiDi) are available at the airport and typically take about 25 - 40 minutes to reach Parramatta, depending on traffic.
  • A trial was introduced recently that caps taxi fares to the CBD, improving pricing transparency for first-time visitors.

Private Transfers & Shuttles

  • Shared shuttle buses provide direct transport to many hotels across Sydney for a set fare — often a good choice for groups.


Getting to Parramatta from Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI)

Taxi & Rideshare

  • Taxis and rideshare services (Uber, Ola, DiDi) are available at the airport and typically take about 25-35 minutes to reach Parramatta, depending on traffic.

Train

Please check timetables one the airport is officially open

  • When passenger flights begin, a free WSI Link shuttle bus will connect the airport with St Marys railway station until metro services are available. From St Marys you could take a T1 Western Line train to Parramatta.
  • Total travel time is likely around 45–60 minutes, depending on connections.



Getting Around Parramatta, Sydney

There are a variety of transport options that are reliable, efficient, and good for exploring the city before or after conference sessions.

Scenic and relaxing alternative to road travel - Ferry service

The F3 Parramatta River ferry service connects Parramatta Wharf with Sydney CBD (Circular Quay and Barangaroo). The scenic, direct trip takes about 75 minutes. Fares generally range from $7 to $10, and you can tap on and off using an Opal card or contactless credit/debit card. Ferries generally operate once every 1 to 2 hours between the CBD and Parramatta F3 Parramatta River Timetable 


Public Transport

Sydney’s integrated network includes trains, buses, light rail and ferries operated across the city:

  • Trains connect the CBD with major suburbs and key attractions.
  • Ferries offer scenic travel across Sydney Harbour — instantly giving you postcard views.
  • Light Rail & Metro provide speedy connections within central areas and to districts such as Barangaroo and Chatswood.
  • Most services accept Opal cards or contactless payment for convenience.
  • Taxis & Rideshare

Taxis are easy to hail in the city, and rideshare services operate widely, offering door-to-door travel when public transport isn’t ideal.

Walking & Cycling

  • Many key attractions in the city centre are within walking distance of each other, and Sydney also has dedicated cycleways with bike hire options.
